Program Partners
Nonprofits already providing environmental education and green career training to more than 350,000 New York City students each year will expand their reach and deepen their impact at Runway Green.

THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST HUNGER
With The Campaign Against Hunger, students will run a 3-acre farm and learn the science of sustainable agriculture, vertical farming, and aquaculture. They also help to feed hungry New Yorkers and empower their community to lead healthier, more productive, and self-sufficient lives by increasing access to safe, nutritious food and related resources.

JAMICA BAY – ROCKAWAY PARKS CONSERVANCY
With Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, students will learn the science of local sandy beach and salt marsh habitats and participate in shoreline cleanups. JBRPC works to expand public access; increase recreational and educational opportunities; foster citizen stewardship and volunteerism; and preserve and restore natural areas.

NY SUN WORKS
In their hydroponic farming lab, NY Sun Works will introduce students to hydroponic farming where they will design and build their own hydroponic and aquaponic systems. Through their Greenhouse Project dedication to improving K-12's approach to science and sustainability education, they are helping students understand the complexity of environmental change.

NYC OUTWARD BOUND SCHOOLS
With NYC Outward Bound, students discover the importance of teamwork by learning how to balance on rock walls, pull through overhangs, and practice belaying their peers. In these programs, they use adventure, joy, and challenge as a catalyst for personal growth, community-building, leadership development and social change.

THE BILLION OYSTER PROJECT
With The Billion Oyster Project, students will help to repopulate New York Harbor with one billion oysters. Students will conduct independent applied research projects and present their learning at the Annual Research Symposium. Through this programming, students gain critical knowledge and skills related to Marine Biology and Marine Advocacy that prepare them for sustainability-focused careers of the future.

THE SCIENCE & RESILIENCE INSTITUTE
With the Science and Resilience Institute (a CUNY project), students will support a community of researchers who are tracking the real-world effects of climate change and urbanization. Their mission is to produce integrated knowledge that increases biodiversity, well-being, and adaptive capacity in coastal communities and waters surrounding Jamaica Bay and NYC.

SOLAR ONE
Students will build and maintain sustainable energy sources that operate our net-zero campus. Solar One’s Green Workforce Training Program offers green hard skills, technical training and industry recognized certifications tied to green building operations and maintenance, energy efficiency, and solar. Their mission is to design and deliver innovative education, training, and technical assistance that fosters sustainability and resiliency in diverse urban environments.

Transcend is made up of a diverse team of educators, innovators, and change-makers working to support school communities to create and spread extraordinary, equitable learning environments. Transcend pursues this mission through directly supporting schools and systems in design work, democratizing design, and catalyzing systemic change through engaging funders, leaders, and policy influencers.
Education Reimagined leverages the expertise and learnings from its community of thousands of leaders in education to spread the vision of a learner-centered, community-based approach to education. The organization connects education leaders across background, sector, and geography to learn from one another, share resources, and identify what needs to be invented to advance learner-centered ecosystems today.
EL Education is a national nonprofit that partners with K-12 educators to transform diverse public schools into hubs of opportunity and empower students to achieve excellent, equitable outcomes. EL Education transforms K-12 schools through proven instructional practices, high-quality curriculum, and aligned professional learning.
